EnChroma Color Accessibility Program™

The EnChroma Color Accessibility Program™ helps organizations such as schools, museums, libraries, parks, universities, tourism departments, businesses and others loan EnChroma glasses to students or the public so color blind people can more fully participate in life's colorful experiences and overcome obstacles. Through our accessibility program for color blind individuals, we donate a pair of color blind glasses for each pair an organization purchases. We also offer color blind adapted scenic viewers.

Over 400 organizations participate in the program worldwide!

Notable organizations across the globe have joined our mission, including the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, Van Gogh Museum, Centre Pompidou, University of North Carolina, Boston University, Visit Seattle, Travel Yukon, and Tennessee Public Libraries (see full list of participants below). EnChroma also advocates for the color blind by educating organizations about “color accessible” design in signage at venues, and modifying the colors used in schoolwork, classrooms and in the workplace. For less than $600, a “kit” of our glasses can improve accessibility and inclusion for students, visitors or employees.

Color Blindness Awareness Month 2023 Partners

During the month of September, we sponsor Color Blindness Awareness Month to raise awareness of the challenges, big and small, faced by the 350 million people worldwide with color vision deficiencies. This year nearly 250 organizations participated, resulting in a reach of over 6 million people. We’d like to thank each and every person who contributed to getting the word out within their organizations and through the social media and marketing efforts. Together, with our growing community of support groups for color blindness, we endeavor to create a world where everyone can fully engage with the colorful tapestry of life.

See The Impact of Color

Elevating the human experience by making vibrant color accessible to all through lens innovation is what motivates us at EnChroma. We partnered with Tennessee Tourism to install Special Scenic Viewers at 13 State Parks.

EnChroma Partner Testimonials

The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum was pleased to work with EnChroma to add color accessibility for color vision deficient guests by developing a loan program featuring their glasses. As a museum dedicated to showcasing the art and life of Georgia O’Keeffe, color is a significant part of the story that we tell. In addition, diversity, inclusivity, and accessibility on all fronts are critically important to the Museum, and the partnership with EnChroma allowed us to create inclusivity in an area rarely given consideration. Georgia O’Keeffe had macular degeneration for the last years of her life, so the Museum was able to tie her vision story to general awareness of color blindness with visitors. Guests who borrowed the glasses reported an enhanced experience at the Museum. We were delighted to form the partnership with EnChroma to educate, include, and enrich the experience of our guests. We found the EnChroma team to be professional and responsive to our needs as an art museum.

- Mara Harris, Communications Director, Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, Santa Fe, NM

Thanks to the generosity of EnChroma, we have been the first institution of higher education in the world to help underwrite the purchase of EnChroma glasses for individuals in our University’s community (students, staff, faculty, and alumni) who suffer from color blindness. We share EnChroma’s goals with respect to addressing color deficiency and learning. We are honored and pleased to count Don McPherson MS ’84, Ph.D. ’88, HD ‘18, the co-founder and chief technology officer of EnChroma, as a graduate of Alfred University. We look forward to additional opportunities to partner with Don and EnChroma to better our world through enhancing the impact of the marvelous technological innovations that they are making.

- Mark Zupan, President, Alfred University, Alfred, NY

Nature is colorful, life is colorful. The beauty of nature should be accessible to all visitors to the 'Ding' Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Working with EnChroma to enable vivid wildlife sightings and experiences for the color blind was easy and integral to widen our mission for more accessibility.

- Toni Westland, Supervisory Ranger, US Fish & Wildlife Service, J.N. 'Ding' Darling Wildlife Refuge, Sanibel Island, FL

EnChroma shares our commitment to helping students overcome challenges to reach their full potential and has been a solid partner in working together to achieve this common goal. As a colorblind person myself the impact EnChroma glasses have made on me and our students is absolutely incredible. By working together with Enchroma, we’ve been able to identify students in grades K-12 with color blindness and set them up with glasses. We also use EnChroma glasses in our science program as part of our curriculum to make sure all our students have the opportunity to see color and how beautiful the world really is.

- Scott Hanson, Principal, Lakeview Public Schools, MN

Since one post to students and a small story in our local paper, the response to the glasses has been incredible from staff, faculty and the public. We’ve even had at least two calls from people who live over 50 miles away asking how they can reserve a pair.

– Mechele Romanchock, Director of Libraries, Alfred University

Numerous Lions Clubs in North Carolina are working closely with EnChroma to get schoolchildren in our districts tested for color blindness and to try the EnChroma glasses. EnChroma has been responsive and a pleasure to work with and shares in the mission of Lions to support the visual needs of students who suffer from color vision deficiency to give them the best learning experience possible.

-  Mayra McCloud, 1st Vice District Governor, District 31N and State Chair for "Technology For the Visually Impaired" for NC Lions. Retired Chief of Visual Information at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, Fort Bragg, NC.
