Since day one, EnChroma's mission has been simple: help people with color blindness experience the world in full color. This year, our O'Neill × EnChroma collaboration took that mission to the water — performance sunglasses tuned for surf, sun, and the spectrum between.
Working alongside a brand with decades of ocean heritage made one thing impossible to ignore: the place where color lives brightest is under threat. An estimated 11 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean every year — dulling reefs, coastlines, and the water our collection was made for.
So we're acting on it. For every order placed on our US website, 2.2 lbs (1 kg) of ocean-bound plastic is collected before it ever reaches the water — in partnership with CleanHub.
The brightest days deserve a blue ocean. We plan to keep it that way.

CleanHub funds professional collection crews in coastal communities across India, Indonesia, and Cambodia — regions where waste infrastructure doesn't yet exist and plastic would otherwise reach the sea. Waste is intercepted from households, waterways, and fishermen's bycatch.

Every kilo is weighed, photographed, and logged through CleanHub's Track & Trace technology, then independently audited under TÜV SÜD verification — so our claims are backed by evidence, not promises.

There's no denying it — our glasses ship in packaging, and some of it is plastic. It protects your frames and lenses in transit, and we're working to reduce it. But we believe using plastic comes with responsibility.
That's why we partnered with CleanHub, an organization on a mission to prevent 50% of new ocean plastic by 2030. More than two billion people live without access to proper waste management — trash is burned, dumped, or piled onto unmanaged landfills, destined for rivers and the sea. CleanHub builds collection systems in these coastal regions and creates stable, dignified jobs for local communities.
We don't ask you to take our word for any of it. Our collection numbers update on a live, independently verified dashboard — the same one our team checks.

Why does EnChroma packaging still use plastic?
Precision optics need protection. Some plastic in our packaging is currently the best option for keeping your frames and lenses safe in transit. We're reducing it where we can — and taking responsibility for what remains. Wherever we are on the journey, we'll communicate it honestly.
What does "ocean-bound plastic" mean?
Plastic waste in coastal regions without formal waste management, at high risk of entering waterways and the sea. Collecting it on land — before it reaches the water — is far more effective than fishing it out afterwards.
Why collect plastic on land and not out of the ocean?
Once plastic enters the ocean it breaks up, sinks, and scatters — recovery becomes slow and inefficient. Stopping it at the source prevents far more plastic per dollar, which means your order goes further.
Who is CleanHub?
