New Peer-Reviewed Study Finds EnChroma’s SuperX Filter Helps People with Normal Color Vision Find Color Faster

Research published in Vision Research shows the color-enhancing filter in SuperX® lenses measurably improves visual search performance.

BERKELEY, Calif., August 4, 2026 — A study published in the peer-reviewed journal Vision Research has found that the color-enhancing filter in EnChroma’s SuperX® lenses can measurably improve visual search performance for people with normal color vision.

Conducted at the Visual Perception Laboratory at the University of Nevada, Reno, the research — “Effects of color-enhancing filters on color salience in normal trichromats” — used a “color foraging” task modeled on the natural challenge of spotting fruit among foliage. Observers searched for a colored target embedded in a richly colored background, with and without the effect of the SuperX filter applied to the scene’s colors.

On a blue-yellow background, participants located targets significantly faster with the filter, which increases the color contrast between a target and its surroundings along the cone axis the human eye is most sensitive to. The researchers note the size of the benefit depends on the colors present in a given environment — the effect was strongest where the filter widened the most relevant color differences.
